The New Hope Story
March 1989:
New Hope began in the old C. J. Harris Elementary School Auditorium in Pearland (now part of the Alvin/Pearland College). Six months later the church moved to a strip mall and began experimenting with what would work to reach people who were far from God. The church ran about 75 people in attendance for the first six years.
December 1994:
The church moved to the C. A. Nelson Auditorium and restarted. Attendance immediately grew to about 150 as more and more people found New Hope. Over the next three years, the church raised money to buy 22 acres and build on the west side of Pearland.
January 1998:
The church opened the doors of her first building on the new 22-acre site on FM 1128 in west Pearland. Attendance doubled again, again, and again. Additional buildings were built and more services were added until there were 6 services each weekend to handle the crowds. But eventually it became obvious: God had bigger plans for us than our property could handle.
August 2006:
The church sold the 22-acre property and opened up the 120-acre site we now call “the 288 Campus.” This campus includes a 19-acre lake, Prayer Mountain, a 1,550-seat auditorium along with children’s and youth ministry areas, and parking for over 1,200 cars.
Easter 2008:
We launched our East Campus at the Vic Coppinger YMCA. This campus officially made New Hope Church a “multi-site” church. Attendance during our time at the YMCA grew to nearly 500 people per weekend!
Fall 2008:
We launched our internet campus. While hundreds of people view our archived services, we didn’t know what the response would be to our virtual campus. Now it is not uncommon for 150 to 200 homes here and abroad to watch the LIVE stream of our services. Our i-campus Host welcomes and even prays (via the chat option) for people attending the i-campus. Rather than being a “TV show on the internet” the i-campus is an interactive, loving community of New Hopers who can stay in touch and connected to the life of the church no matter where they are around the world!
Fall 2010:
The East Campus became permanent on September 12, 2010, when we celebrated the Grand Opening of our 26,000 square foot facility (a former grocery store) at the corner of FM 518 and
FM 2351 in Friendswood. Attendance in 3 services is now around 1,000 people each weekend!
The 288 Campus added its 5th weekend service. The county road in front of the 288 Campus has been expanded to 4 lanes with turning lanes specifically designed for our church. We added new entrance and exit lanes to our property as well.
Outreach Magazine (Fall 2010 Issue) recognized New Hope Church as the 37th fastest growing church in the United States.
Today:
New Hope Church has 5,500-6,000 people in attendance on an average weekend. What began with a few has grown and developed into an active, fulfilling, significant ministry to thousands! Through the faithful giving of many to the Great CoMission campaign, we have been able to fund a major expansion for our children and students at the 288 Campus, build out offices at our East Campus, begin our first international campus in Jacmel, Haiti, and purchase a bank building in Alvin, TX (future New Hope Alvin Campus). God’s hand has been on the New Hope Church family, and prayers continue to be lifted up asking for His guidance and wisdom as more and more people come to know Him and help to make Him known!
